SO, i finally got around to making some more stuff. i got out my sewing machine and cranked out some coffee cozies for an order and then i actually have a couple pairs of earrings and necklaces i made as well. the cup cozies are an original design even though they are not hard to make AT all. I say original because i used and made my own pattern.

so basically what i did was picked a fabric. any type will do. Make it eye catching and creative. something that suits your personally.
the one i personally use is the camo one.
Next you want to get one of those cardboard ones from your favorite coffee cafe'. Mine is starbucks. I usually have a ton of straw papers and coffee holders in the pockets of my car.
On a plain piece of paper you want to trace out this cardboard and add a seam allowance. it doesn't really matter how big, mine was 1/2 inch. it could be 1/4 or even 1/8, i personally wouldn't go over 1 inch.

Next i would cut along the seam and pin it to the fabric of your choice and then cut along the seam again to cut out your fabric.

Next what you want to do is flip your fabric over so the right sides are facing each other. (because after you sew them you'll be turning them right side out.) i want to mention here that you could add a stabilizer or an insulator between your front and back if the fabric is thin, I don't. i don't find it necessary.
next pin it together. Where the cardboard outline is, cause essentially you want to make it as big as the one from the coffee shop. if you forget where that was just go 1/2 inch in from the edge and pin it. (or what ever seam allowance you gave)
the more pins the easier it is to sew. Keep in mind that this isn't a straight shape. its has a slight curve, its shaped like a rainbow!
OH! AND DON'T FORGET TO LEAVE A SIDE OPEN SO YOU CAN TURN IT!

after you turn it. press it and sew up the open side. i usually go along the edge and sew a top seam. To me it looks clean and finished. Now,you are ready to add the button or whatever closure you prefer. I like buttons so i would usually go for it.But you can use snaps, a button with elastic loop, button and a button hole, velcro. depending on which one you use the steps will be different.
I used a button and a button hole. only because i have a setting on my sewing machine that does ALL of this so nicely. Why not use it, right!?
TADA! you just made your first of probably many coffee cup cozies. to me its so much better than the brown yucky cardboard one.
I love to personalize things and this way i can add my OWN flare to my already personalized coffee!
